At this year’s auction, we launched a scholarship fund so that children ages 3-21 years old with physical or intellectual disabilities could attend The School at McGuire, despite their family or school district’s limited financial resources.
Why? Because sadly, some of our students at The School at McGuire did not know acceptance or experience achievement until they arrived here. In fact, researchers from the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University conducted a survey of 1,200 parents who had a child with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and found 63 percent of the kids had been bullied. In fact, children with intellectual disabilities who attend public schools are more likely to experience significant emotional distress from bullying, and the survey also found some public school children are being intentionally triggered into such episodes.
The School at McGuire provides a comprehensive education, a range of therapeutic services, and individualized curriculum within a nurturing and loving environment. Our nondenominational school is a safe haven, dedicated to McGuire Memorial’s founding premise that every life is sacred, and that every child, no matter the scope of his or her abilities, should experience a fullness of life.
Our goal is to raise $450,000 or approximately 120 months of scholarships to be awarded. On Saturday, February 27, we raised contributions and pledges for 24 months, but we know that there are many children in surrounding school districts who would thrive from the individualized program that is offered at The School at McGuire.
Whatever amount you can afford to Fund a Future is greatly appreciated by the parents of students who have watched their children grow and succeed at The School at McGuire Memorial. Please go to DONATE ONLINE and share this link with your Facebook friends and family so that we can reach our goal.
If you would like to pledge twelve months of tuition at $45,000, six months of tuition at $22,250, four months of tuition at $11,250, two months of tuition at $7,500, one month of tuition at $3,750 or a week of tuition at $865—we can set up credit card payments over the course of the next year of $73-$3,750/month—to make these convenient and affordable for you. Please contact Dawn at the Foundation office at 724-843-0365 for more information.
THANK YOU!
